The Fourth Column

Step We Are On: Four

Page: 67

Chapter: 5 "How It Works"

Subject: Resentment Inventory, column 4

Good morning. Here’s a sample “resentment prayer” which many use. Taken from this page (67) :

“God help me show (identify the person) the same tolerance, pity, and patience that I  would cheerfully grant a sick friend. This is a sick man. How can I be helpful to him? God save me from being angry. Your will be done, God”

We are continuing through the columns of the 4th step directions. We are looking at the upsetting things others do in the world from an angle quite different from the one we are used to.  Today we see where from comes that fourth and final column.
  • ·        Can we help everyone?
We cannot be helpful to all people,

  • ·        Do we call our sponsor to bitch about how bad everyone is to us and what to do?
but at least God will show us how to take a kindly and tolerant view of each and every one.

OH…God SHOWS us how to do it!

How would our life be if we could take a kindly and tolerant view of every person with whom we ever came in contact?
  • ·        What do we do next?
Referring to our list again.

This ‘referring’ is where we “Thumpers” get to justify that infamous ‘invisible’ fourth column, the one that's not 'illustrated’ on page 65.

  • ·        As we begin, what do we disregard?
Putting out of our minds the wrongs others had done,

  • ·        Whose mistakes do we look at?
we resolutely looked for our own mistakes.

Tomorrow:
Just what are our “mistakes”
