And now . . . Here's One For All of Us Alcoholic Geniuses

Step we are on: Step Two
Chapter: "We Agnostics"
Subject: Faith, Spiritual Progress, Conscious Contact

Good morning. We are still on Step Two. The Big Book co-authors are about to present a logical  parallel between material progress and spiritual progress. Very clever, and very true too.

Today we continue to bound ahead technologically - with I-Phones, an expanding Internet, supercomputers - it is astonishing. Can the yearning for spiritual growth parallel our clamoring for earthly enlargement Let’s see what they thought:

  • What is the most important thing in the lives of those early members of Alcoholics Anonymous?

Was it, "meetings?"
Was it "fellowship"?
Was it being sober?
When many hundreds of people are able to say that the consciousness of the Presence of God is today the most important fact of their lives,

"The most important fact" means second to none; placing "prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God" at the top of the to-do list for a recovered alcoholic; before, meetings, before service, before sobriety yes, even before working with others.

Where is YOUR priority in Twelve Stop recovery?

  • Do these AAs have any convincing justification as to the importance of developing God consciousnesses ?

they present a powerful reason why one should have faith.

They begin making the case:

  • Do we live in a material world?

This world of ours has made more material progress in the last century than in all the millenniums which went before.

  • Is the reason for this "material progress" a secret?

Almost everyone knows the reason.
They will tell us that reason, and they will also make a correlation of material progress to spiritual progress. You will be amazed at how clever the co-authors of this book were. Stay tuned.

Appealing to the logical mind to make a spiritual case - egg headed alkies beware!

Peace and  Love,
