Good morning. We are going through the columns of the 4th step directions. We are looking at fear and learning how disastrous it is to rely upon one’s self.

• What do we think about this matter of self reliance?

Perhaps there is a better way - we think so.

• What different basis are we now on, having started out our Third Step decision?

For we are now on a different basis; the basis of trusting and relying upon God.

• Who do we now trust?

We trust infinite God rather than our finite selves.

And yet, it has been drilled into us to since childhood to believe in ourselves, that we can be what we want to be, that we can accomplish great things and to ambitiously use our will to achieve material successes in the world.

What a cruel hoax that has been.

It belies the foundation of the spiritual principles we are now learning we must adopt if we expect to live usefully and free from doubt - doubting God.

• What is our role in life now?

We are in the world to play the role He assigns.

• Just to the extent we do what?

Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him,
