Page 33 - More About Alcoholism

Chapter: Three

Page: 33

Step we are on: Step One

Subject: The "Man of Thirty"

• Might this lead young people also try the “The Man of Thirty” approach to the alcoholic problem – that is to say use willpower to stop – as he did?

Young people may be encouraged by this man's experience to think that they can stop, as he did, on their own will power.

• Will many of the young ones be successful in such self-imposed sobriety?

We doubt if many of them can do it,

• Will young folks really want to stop for good and all?

because none will really want to stop,

• Why will they be unable to stop even if they want to?

and hardly one of them, because of the peculiar mental twist already acquired, will find he can win out.

Tomorrow:

What did several young men discover?

Does how long a person drinks have much to do with the fatality of alcoholism?

Does the amount one drinks have much to do with alcoholism?
