Subject: Mental Condition, Jim the Salesman, Insanity, Two Fold illness, Pre-lapse, Relapse, Normal vs. Abnormal
Good morning. Today it has become popular in some recovery circles to turn a blind eye to the abnormality of the real alcoholic. Who wants to think that they are different; that they are not normal.; that their behavior has been deviant and unnatural?
Today we get an inkling of what the co-authors considered normal vs abnormal behavior.
Yes, they did something that many of us would not have the nerve to do - admit that the alcoholic is NOT NORMAL. He is abnormal.
Lets start with what "normal" and "abnormal "means:
Abnormal – irregular performed unnatural not conforming to rule or type.
Normal – according to established standard, rule, or principle; 2. Serving as a standard normal rule. - The Winston Simplified Dictionary – 1938

- What happened to him when his luck ran out?
Luck then deserts him and he is slightly injured several times in succession.
- If he were normal, what would he have done at this point?
You would expect him, if he were normal, to cut it out.
Note: If you were a normal person, what would you have done when your drinking started causing you problems?
- But since he apparently was not normal, what happened to him next?
Presently he is hit again and this time has a fractured skull.
- Within a week, what happened?
Within a week after leaving the hospital a fast-moving trolley car breaks his arm.
- With that piece of bad luck, what did he decide to do?
He tells you he has decided to stop jay-walking for good,
Note: After some pretty tragic consequences resulting from your drinking, what did you decide to do?
- What were the consequences of his inability to manage that decision to quit for good and all?
but in a few weeks he breaks both legs.Peace & Love,
