"I could go for such conceptions as Creative Intelligence, Universal Mind or Spirit of Nature but I resisted the thought of a Czar of the Heavens . . ." |

Step we are on: Step Two
Chapter: "We Agnostics"
Subject: Belief, Willingness,
- What was it that bothered us?
We were bothered with the thought that faith and dependence upon a Power beyond ourselves was somewhat weak, even cowardly.
Page 46
- What gave us cause to believe this?
We looked upon this world of warring individuals, warring theological systems, and inexplicable calamity, with deep skepticism.
- Why did we distrust some folks?
We looked askance at many individuals who claimed to be godly.
- With all the evil, what two questions were posed? Two sentences
* How could a Supreme Being have anything to do with it all?9/11? Jihad? Vietnam? Cult killings, et al.
* And who could comprehend a Supreme Being anyhow?
- Yet, in other moments, what did we wonder? Two sentences
Yet, in other moments, we found ourselves thinking, when enchanted by a starlit night, "Who, then, made all this?"
- Did that "enchanted" feeling of wonderment for creation last?
There was a feeling of awe and wonder, but it was fleeting and soon lost.
Do you remember Bill's spiritual experience at Winchester Cathedral?
He had it. But then he lost it, "But soon the sense of His presence had been
blotted out by worldly clamors, mostly those within myself."
Tomorrow:
- What have we shared with those of agnostic temperament?
- What do we want to hurry and do?
- What happens when we are able to lay aside our prejudices and become willing?
- This happens even though what?
- What were we relieved to learn
Peace and Love,
