Self-Serving Triumphs Don't Last

Step We Are On: Four

Chapter: 5 "How It Works"

Subject: Resentment Inventory, Depression

Good morning. We are going through the columns of the 4th step directions.

  • Is that where most of us stop?
To conclude that others were wrong was as far as most of us ever got.

  • What continues to happen?
The usual outcome was that people continued to wrong us and we stayed sore.

  • What was it sometimes and then who were we mad at?
Sometimes it was remorse and then we were sore at ourselves.

This is where depression begins. Resenting our own resentment can lead us into it.

  • The harder we tried to have our way, what happened?
But the more we fought and tried to have our own way, the worse matters got.

Struggling with our negative emotions keeps us locked onto them.
  • Did we win some battles and lose the war?  Two sentences
As in war, the victor only seemed to win. Our moments of triumph were short-lived.
People can be right or wrong, but if we hate them it is only to serve our “self,” inflating our ‘self’ esteem in judgment of them, playing God. The effects of a vitriolic attitude, where we play God is emotional and durable, expressing within both physically and mentally for a long time after the offensive incident has occurred.
