Good morning. We are going through the columns of the 4^th step directions. 

 First, let's not forget what resentment is? In 1939 it meant to consider as an injury or insult; to feel, express or show excessive emotion or passion around by a sense of injury or wrong. Its a darned good description.

• What becomes plain?

It is plain that a life which includes deep resentment leads only to futility and unhappiness.

• What is the result of thinking about what they did to us and  how we are going to get even with them?

To the precise extent that we permit these, do we squander the hours that might have been worth while.          

• What is the hope of the alcoholic who is trying this program?

But with the alcoholic, whose hope is the maintenance and growth of a spiritual experience

• Are resentments a serious matter to alcoholics?

This business of resentment is infinitely grave

• How serious are they?

We found that it is fatal.

How is it then that we will hear folks hold up anger and resentment as being only "human",  "normal" and acceptable.  This book does not condone anger-not in the least. 

Anger is not a way to live; it is a way to die.
