Subject: Mental Condition, Fred the Accountant, Insanity, Two Fold illness, Nervous, Pre-lapse, Relapse, Normal vs. Abnormal
Good morning. We are Still on Fred the Accountant. (Real name: Harry Brick)
What we are learning about Fred is that one does not have to be materially bottomed out in order to experience the alcoholic 'bottom'. This is the whole point of this story. Many folks think alcoholics drink because they are socially or financially degraded.
Even alcoholics can use disadvantage as an excuse to drink. But its only an excuse; not a true cause.
Money, position, privilege have NOTHING to do with whether or not someone is alcoholic, as we shall see.
- Where did he go on business?
One day I went to Washington to present some accounting evidence to a government bureau.

- Was this a new experience for him?
I had been out of town before during this particular dry spell, so there was nothing new about that.
- How did he feel physically?
Physically, I felt fine.
- What problems or worries did he have?
Neither did I have any pressing problems or worries.
- How did his business in Washington go?
My business came off well, I was pleased and knew my partners would be too.
So far things are GREAT for Fred! "Just Don't Drink" (Staying Sober) ought to be a breeze! Right?

- What kind of a day had it been?
- What did he do after he completed his business for the day?
- As he went into the dining room, what insane thought did he have?
- How did he act on that insane thought?
- What did he do then?

ReplyDeletePRIMARY PUPOSE IS not ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, DANNY. THE BIG BOOK DOESNT NEED TEACHING UNDER THE GUISE OF 'STUDYING'. NOR DOES IT NEED EXPLAINING OR GURUS, THE BIG BOOK IS SIMPLE AND ITS IN BLACK AND WHITE, i suggest READ THE BLACK PART. primary purpose- reads AND TEACHES the white part. there are no short cuts in the 4th step. the founders never did the big book 4th step.TELLING ALCOHOLICS THEY CAN DO THE STEPS IN HOURS' AS THE FOUNDERS DID IS DEADLY- THE FOUNDERS NEVER DID THE 4TH STEP AS OUTLINED IN THE BIG BOOK AND THE FIRST 100 MENTIONED IN THE BIG BOOK PREFACE, WERE THE FIRST 60 THE FOLLOWING YEAR. 40 OF THE FIRST 100 DRANK BY 1941. this idea that you can do ALL 12 STEPS in 4 hours is crap or a week end- its dangerous. when are you going to stop 'teaching' the Big Book and let God's Spirit do the work? it doesnt need you or I to explain what God has clearly outlined on the black part of the page OF THE bIG bOOK..
ReplyDeleteYou may have looked too deep and missed the point. "Steps in 4 hrs" is some sort of 'spin' you are placing on this. I have never heard of that with ANYONE involved with PPG - That kind of spinning on your part must be some kind of n misinformation tactic- maybe not instigated by you, but maybe someone has given you a false impression about PP. It is NOT an accelerated step taking proposal. It is simply a Big Book study meeting format.
ReplyDeleteGoing through the Big Book PP style is a painstaking, line by line method. It can take years to complete. Not hours or days or even a few months. The last cycle took three years!
